Mahjongg will play Howie and Son's Pizza Parlor Saturday in Visalia.

So, you've just finished sitting through "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith." Are you in the mood for some live music and good grub?

If so, head over to Howie & Son's Pizza Parlor in Visalia for some live independent rock music this weekend.

At 9:30 p.m. today, Boston-based Seneca will perform. Critics compare the band to a raw version of Radiohead. The Dig -- a Boston-based alternative weekly --wrote that the band "kills live."

You can hear some of the band's music at www.SenecaSound.com

Also on the bill today is 20 Minute Loop, a San Francisco-based band that's well known for being the opening act for some of the most popular acts coming through the Bay Area.

"Their music combines male-female vocal harmonies and hook-filled guitar and keyboard melodies, all backed by a rock-steady rhythm section making for some really lush arrangements," promoter Aaron Gomes wrote.

Then, at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the Chicago-based Mahjongg will play at the pizza parlor. The band's debut CD, "Machinegong," got a rave review from the Washington Post's music critic.

Also on the bill Saturday is Los Angeles-based From Bubblegum to Sky, Mario Hernandez's solo act. The label describes his act as a mix of "love for American pop with Japanese kitsch, Bowie and the Beatles." You can check out the singer-songwriter's Web site at www.eeniemeenie.com.

The night finishes up with another Los Angeles-based band, Let's Go Sailing, which had the unenviable experience of once playing on stage with Courtney Love. The band -- in an amazing turn of luck -- escaped unscathed.

"She supposedly broke out of rehab that day and somehow ended up on stage with us," a band member told Gomes for a press release. "I thought I was having a weird dream."

You can check out the band's Web site at www.letsgosailingmu sic.com.

Both shows are all-ages events and have $2 covers.

Choir performance

If your musical taste leans toward well-behaved and groomed teenagers -- with absolutely no chance of Love showing up -- you might want to head to the Visalia Fox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. today, when Redwood High School will perform its annual spring performance. The theme this year is "School of Rock." Tickets are $6 and are available at the door.
